Drama Class

The students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 have one hour of drama a week. In first term they learn about mime techniques appropriate to their development in their year levels.

Term 2 the classes participate in many improvisation and role play activities and learn how to use costumes and props appropriately for their work. These activities enhance  their creativity,  voice techniques, facial expressions, movement and stage positioning whilst also giving them confidence to perform a variety of roles to an audience.

During Term 3 the students learn about different elements of drama for example puppetry, mask making, costumes, stage sets, use of props & movie making using i-pads. On completion of their tasks they perform a short play utilising what they have made and the skills they have learnt in previous terms.

In fourth term the classes concentrate on script interpretation and presentation. Upper primary classes also enjoy learning about stage makeup & lighting techniques.

To further develop the performing arts skills at our school we hold an annual talent quest in the last week of Term 2 where students can perform an instrumental music, drama, comedy, dance or singing item. Years 4 -6 is a competition and Years 1-3 perform for experience only. The grand-final is held on the last Friday afternoon of the term and it is a positive and entertaining way to conclude the term.

A highlight of the drama program is the annual musical production which is performed during the second last week of Term 3. Auditions are held for Years 4-6 students during Terms 1 & 2.

During Term 3 the cast rehearse during school time, lunch times and after school. This year the cast will be performing 'Robin & The Sherwood Hoodies' on Tuesday 12th September (11.30am matinee) and Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th September at 7.30pm.  All performances are held in the school under cover area.

Apart from the 50 students in the cast we also include many other students from Years 5 & 6 to do the sound, lighting, stage crew, backdrop projection and ushering roles. We are very fortunate to have wonderful parent and staff involvement to help with other areas such as dancing, singing, costume design, prop collection and construction, ticket sales & makeup. We look forward to performing for the school community & general public.
