Physical Education

Each class in the school except for the Pre-primary and Kindergarten classes has an hourly lesson each week with the PE specialist. The program is supplemented with Daily Fitness where staff rotate and take a different class for activities each morning, except Wednesday when the classroom teacher takes their class for a Beach Walk at the end of Bower Road.

Students are exposed to a wide range of movement skills, minor games, basic team sports and associated skills.

The school has 4 factions and students are encouraged to wear their faction shirt to Phys Ed lessons and other faction based carnivals. Hats and water bottles are a must for Phys Ed lessons in terms 1 and 4.  Students are rewarded for doing the right/good thing by receiving faction points. The Faction Captains tally these points and draws are held at assemblies. At the end of each term the winning Faction receives a reward.

The school has various faction events throughout the year.

  • Term 1:  Beach Carnival
  • Term 1:  School Triathlon (years 4-6)
  • Term 3:  Cross-country Race (years 3-6)
  • Term 3:  Athletics Carnival (includes pre-carnival events)

An Inter-school Summer Sporting Carnival for Year 5 & 6 students is usually held towards the end of Term 1. Students will compete in basketball, cricket, T-ball, tennis and volleyball. A Winter Sporting Carnival is also held towards the end of Term 2 involving AFL football, netball, soccer and hockey.

Students also have the opportunity to participate in swimming lessons during Term 4 with their class. Buses are used to transport students to the Leisure Centre every day for 2 weeks for a 45 minute lesson at their appropriate swimming stage. These lessons are considered an important part of the school Phys Ed program.

Where possible, the school takes advantage of clinics offered by Development Officers from various major sports. These are usually short programs of only a few weeks and can be limited to a targeted level of classes. Previous clinics the school has been involved in have been in hockey, AFL football, basketball, softball, cricket and netball.

Parent/Guardian help is quite often required to help run our carnivals, so please let the school office know if you can help out at any of these events in any capacity.
