OUR SCHOOL - Numeracy
Mathematics instruction at West Busselton is prefaced around First Steps developmental understandings. The school has engaged with Dr Paul Swan from ECU to help develop our instructional capacity in all areas of the Australian Curriculum. Teachers use our 4 step instructional model to explicitly teach.
A focus for our students is building their capacity to "decode" the literacy of numeracy through a whole school approach to problem solving.
Extension classes (out of class) are provided for our most capable mathematicians in Years 4, 5 and 6.
Mental Maths skills are a focus also for our students and mastery of times tables is strongly encouraged.
